What did you discuss with the factory farming lobby?
CORPO DELLA MAIL
Commissioner Hansen,
Why did your cabinet member, Alisa Tiganj, meet with European Livestock Voice, the lobby identified by Lighthouse Reports as responsible for blocking the cage ban a few years ago?
While millions of citizens demand an end to cages and are ignored, this lobby was granted direct access to your cabinet.
I join the call to know what was discussed in this meeting. What were the five recommendations for the Vision for the Future of EU Agriculture that they delivered?
We cannot let history repeat itself, with the factory farming industry once again blocking the cage ban.
This is particularly concerning in light of the Vision for Agriculture and Food (2025) you presented, under which the Commission plans to propose further revisions to existing EU animal welfare legislation, including the phasing out of cages.
On November 4, 2024, you said: “If I am confirmed as Commissioner, I will work closely with the Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare, notably to modernize rules on animal welfare, in line with scientific, environmental, economic, and social factors.”
We expect a response to the FOI request filed on 11 March and full disclosure of what was discussed.
After years of delays and broken promises, it is time to ensure this process is transparent and guided by citizens’ expectations, not industry interests.
Sincerely,
